:: Michigan’s Otherside::What motivated you to start a paranormal team?
::Grimstone Inc.::
In 1996, Grimstone Inc. started as a collaborative effort between a physical scientist, a security specialist and two business managers to formally investigate and document paranormal phenomenon. This was due to the increase in reported paranormal events and the lack of scientific established organizations within the Great Lakes region. Three years later we went public as the premiere scientific research organization offering discrete investigations, data research mining and educational community programs.
Since its inception, Grimstone Inc. is motivated in its pursuit of the supernatural by the need for scientific understanding. That is why we develop scientific methodologies, staff business professionals such as electrical engineers, psychologists, historians, and professional photographers and develop such resources as the Spirit Society (offering online analysis tools and the only searchable dynamic database of ghost researchers), ParaMap (national database of haunting research), and our Photographic Analysis Department.
Where are you based?
Our team conducts monthly training and program management out of Ypsilanti, MI.
What does your team do during an investigation? What can a client expect if they contact you?
We tailor our services to best meet our client's needs and the specific reported paranormal events. In many situations, we do follow a process outline. This includes:
1) Phone Consultation
a) Initial interview of the client to have a better understanding of the phenomenon and possible related causes.
2) Site Survey
a) Mapping of the site.
b) In depth interviews with client and related witnesses.
3) Initial Investigation
a) A/V surveillance of the site.
b) Instrumental analysis.
4) Historical Research
a) Home abstract development.
b) Site profiling for paranormal indicators.
5) Scientific Analysis
a) Data stream analysis.
b) Statistical modeling.
6) Evaluation and Determination.
We are also the only organization in Michigan to currently offer Client Gateway services. Detailed orientated scientific investigations and research requires time. This is due to the amount of research performed and the number of data feeds. An investigation can easily contain 16 video feeds, 8 audio feeds, 4 dataloggers, and historical research from a dozen resources and offices. In order to provide our clients with the fastest turn around for services, our client gateway allows them to review our work and analysis as it is performed in real time. For example, they can examine image analysis results, read case reports, or consult with us instantly.
When did your team form and who is in charge?
The group initiated in 1996. It became a public not-for profit organization in 1999.
The group is an equal partnership collaboration. Each person plays a crucial part to its success. Some members of note include:
Christopher Bailey - Research Director - cbailey@grimstone-inc.com
Jonathan Wiley - Lead Investigator - jwiley@grimstone-inc.com
Sheena Rogers - Head Historical Archivist - srogers@grimstone-inc.com
Philippe Longe - Administration - plonge@grimstone-inc.com
What is your stance on Orbs and Paranormal Photography
We conducted a small particle research project in an optics lab with eight different makes and models of cameras. Calibrated sized pigments were used in the research. All data supports that orb theory is light bounce from small particle reflection within the focal range of the camera. Differences in orb size, color, opacity, and shape were dependant upon lens systems, flash intensity and wavelength and distance from source.
Grimstone Inc. is of the firm principle that one must understand true photography before hoping to evaluate spirit photography. That is why we now offer a photographic analysis department to better evaluate evidence. This department is run by a professional photographer and utilizes custom built software for examining photographic anomalies. You can submit photographic images at any time to the department for a complimentary evaluation. Submissions can be sent to PAD@grimstone-inc.com or by mail at:
